This episode concludes our seven part series on the Seven Factors of Awakening as taught by the historic buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. The complete list of factors is as follows:

The seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga)

  1. Mindfulness (sati)

  2. Investigation (dhamma-vicaya)

  3. Energy (vīriya)

  4. Rapture (pīti)

  5. Tranquility (passaddhi)

  6. Concentration (samādhi)

  7. Equanimity (upekkhā)

They are traditionally thought of in three groups:

  • One balancing factor: Mindfulness

  • Three energizing factors: Investigation, Energy, and Rapture

  • Three calming factors: Tranquility, Concentration, and Equanimity

I pray this little mini-series was of some benefit.

Hiræth: Post-Activism in the Anthropocene is a reader-supported publication offered in the spirit of The Gift. There are no paywalls! Over 100 articles available to all thanks to regular, generous financial support from readers like you. It is my belief that artists, writers, musicians, etc. make life worth living. They ask the big questions regarding love, longing, death, wonder, despair, etc. Such work requires real risk—physically, emotionally, and yes, financially. It costs money to do this. The more artists thrive, the more everyone thrives. Dear reader, if you have been blessed with financial abundance and appreciate what I am offering here, please consider becoming a paid subscriber. Such a simple act (less than the cost of one latte per month) not only helps feed my family but feeds that spark in Life that yearns for real culture to live again. 13 Thank you’s. Honey in the HeART.

*Please stay tuned in the coming weeks as we begin our new effort to regenerate 20 acres of forest into a safe space for all beings, a learning space for right-livelihoods/a center for the preservation of endangered wisdom traditions. (Panya)

**Additionally, in the coming months we will journey to Ladakh for the Local Futures Summit where we will further investigate traditional, in-tact educational modalities that offer insight as to how to live well in a place.
