“What does the Ocean want, daddy?” My heart sinks. I want to give her a gold star. But there’s no need for that, because there’s an actual star blazing in the heavens overhead. “Ask Him”, I reply, pointing to Father Sun. “He knows Her very well. But don’t ask with your words, He doesn’t speak human. Ask with a vocable song, ask what She loves with a dance. Hmm.. Better yet, slow down and observe what She loves. Just like you do when you are thinking of what gift to give mommy. Watch what the Ocean loves and try to give Her that.”amen

Gifting is so natural, and I appreciate this ode to this phenomenon. I look around my living space and see the gifts from others, and it warms my heart. What's precious is the love between friends, more than the objects themselves. Thanks for this gift, Gregory.

Yes! To be wrapped in the warm embrace of our kindred spirits generosity. To be indebted to them because of kindness. To feel overwhelmed by peoples ability to offer love. THIS is to be alive. YOU are a gift Diana. Thank you for showing up.

Beautiful. Thanks for writing and gifting us this piece. I thought of my travels in Bali where they give offerings/gifts of food, flowers, handmade botanical art everyday to the altars to spirit and earth everywhere. It's ingrained in their beautiful culture, deep gratitude and graciousness.
