This past week my wife and I hosted another magical gathering in the mountains of Northern Thailand with a marvelous group of participants from around the world. We explored experientially the forgotten relational actions that allow hope to remain at the center of our curiosity. The seed that allows all of what was shared to flourish is the act of generosity, of giving, of a wise understanding of what most of us in the modern world have neglected to seep deeply into; the foundational laws of reciprocity.
My dear readers, after nearly two and a half years of sharing writings with you every week, I must confess my family and I are starting to feel a bit drained. This Substack offering, as with the immersive gatherings we host regularly in Thailand, are offered either for free or on a sliding scale, with the deep faith that those who can pay more will do so in order for us to cover our own costs and to help fund those who are less financially privileged. Our goal is to find balance, to ensure all a place at the table.
It is my firm belief that when people are given the opportunity to give freely, they will do so. But sometimes, due to the foundational scarcity model of exchange offered by modernity’s strange fear-based views, people need to be nudged a wee bit before they feel comfortable handing over their hard earned cash. Additionally, it is very hard for creatives to openly ask for what they deserve in order for balance to be restored and abundance made available to all.
Beloveds, I am asking you all to kindly upscale to being “paid subscribers”. I can no longer continue offering weekly essays without a paywall unless I feel these writings are genuinely appreciated and appropriate reciprocity is felt. This give and take exchange is at the core of so much that is discussed here and must be actively embodied in our daily lives before it is fully understood. A small monthly donation of $5.00 a month (less than the price of but one trendy coffee in The Bay) will let me and my family know that what we are doing means a great deal to you, that it is all worthy of sharing publicly.
Obviously not all of you are in a place to hand over your funds. I understand. The reason I have not erected a paywall is because of you. My intent is to keep everything open to all, but this requires that at least 10% of my reader base is willing to support my work financially. I trust that those who have been blessed with more will help us all out. This new world we wish to build depends on this.
I was recently invited to join a group of 50 artists, farmers, film makers, teachers, unschoolers, worldschoolers, writers, activists, teachers, healers, yogis, rebels, visionaries, sinners and saints, etc. to travel throughout India for the month of February visiting nearly 15 eco-villages to dive deeply into emerging ways of being. It is my sincere wish that I will be able to share intimately with all of you the behind-the-scenes magic that will surely ignite from the merriment made by this joyous caravan of hope-filled evolutionary pranksters.
Please, consider becoming a paid subscriber today. All blessings.
From a cool Chiang Mai day,
I wish you all the same assurance that you are deeply seen, appreciated and supported.
A deep bow,
and a lotus flower for you…
Gregory Pettys
