Light a Candle, So Their Path Can Be Seen...
A humble invitation to feed those who now welcome home our recently deceased unborn one.
I cannot offer much this week. Yesterday my wife and I learned that the baby growing in my beloveds womb decided not to continue on this human journey but to instead journey forth in other ways. As you can imagine, the grief we now feel is hard to bear and even harder to explain. Even for me, a man of words, I have little yet to say.
I made a vow, before we received this news, to not let the sadness of these strange times debilitate me, to make me bitter, hateful or sarcastic. I owe it to the elegance of the Great Mother, to receive all life’s uncertainties with grace and find within them true beauty. Admittedly however, it is hard to find meaning and beauty in the passing of our unborn child. When a parent learns their baby has died, it seems an absurd thing to even consider, and yet, I made a vow, to Her.
May our tears water the hearts of all mothers and She who gives and takes life from us.
If you feel inclined, I invite you to offer a candle to help our little one find their way now to where they are going. If you are inspired and feel moved, please light a candle too for all the children of the world who are leaving us because of our neglect, our wars, our inability to properly address the climate crisis, our selfishness regarding safer schools, gun reform, clean soil and air and water, etc. May we light the way for a world more suitable for bringing children into, for inspiring adults to dedicate their lives to building the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible, not for our benefit, but for theirs. Please, if you feel called, light a candle for all the unborn, the forgotten, the unseen. And, if you could be so kind, leave a little food out for the Holy Beings who will guide them on their way…
May all beings everywhere plagued with sufferings of body and mind quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid, and may those bound be free.
May the powerless find power and may people think of befriending one another.
May those who find themselves in trackless, fearful wildernesses—the children, the aged, the unprotected—be guarded by beneficent celestials, and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.
May they easily find their way through the Great Sea of Stars, into a place of peace.
….

Deepest love to you and your family, Greg. I had never thought of lighting a candle in this way. Through the darkness and despair comes such beauty. <3
