Excellent writing, my friend. I can relate.

You probably know the documentary "Schooling the World," right? I had to think about it reading your story.

Best greetings from the foothills of the Cardamom Mountains.

Gregory- This one has been worth the dig. The way you weaved Scottie's story with the realness of the land, the hunger to be fed, the imminence of the cobra, and even the stupor of the spikey durian (I could almost smell it, which thankfully for me, is music to my nose)--is testament of the importance of vivid and visceral writing. I admire choice-words like "eventual elder," which for some reason makes me want to be one, if that's OK? Most of all--it makes me home-sick to the bone. Yet another underlined proof of writing that's come alive. Hope you're good across the seas otherwise? Cheers, -Thalia
